Violations and Medical Board Defense

The Texas Medical Board requires medical professionals to use the electronic system in matters relating to death certificates. Section 193.9 of the Texas Medical Board Rules outlines the regulations pertaining to the filing and completion of death certificates. Medical professionals must register with the Texas Department of Health services to file the certificate electronically. If you are ever called upon to sign a death certificate, you cannot wait until a death has occurred in order to do so. If you did not timely register for electronic filing, the Texas Medical Board may take action based upon the violation. Some important things to remember:

You must complete the medical certification not later than five days after receiving the death certificate.

Death certificates must be filed within ten days of the death.

It takes at least ten days for the DSHS to process new enrollments for the electronic system.
